How do I make money with Internet Marketing?

This is a question that is appearing in our forums a lot recently and to avoid repeating myself, I will do a post about it.

Quoting the Oxford Dictionary:

Marketing
the promotion and selling of products or services.

The question by itself is a lazy question and doesn’t provide the necessarily information that is required to allow a proper reply from people that wants to help. Some of the things you need to consider and point out if you are asking this question are:

• What are your skill sets?
• How much time are you planning to devote to making money via Internet Marketing?
• Do you have any areas of expertise in a subject or niche?
• How much money or resources can you spend on your ventures?
• What is your current knowledge of Internet marketing?
• Do you own the product or Service you are marketing?

Contrary to popular belief on some Internet Marketing Forums, Internet Marketing is not just about knocking up a site, getting traffic to it and hoping someone clicks your Adsense Ads. Thats just one form of Internet marketing and you are marketing someone else’s product or service, fitting into the American Heritage Dictionary’s interpretation of the word Marketing:

Marketing
The commercial functions involved in transferring goods from producer to consumer.

A content site running Adsense or similar CPC ads whether knowingly or not is one of the functions that brings the consumer to the product.

Is it Internet Marketing? - YES
Will it make me money? - Maybe

So what other ways are there to make money from Internet marketing?

Affiliate Marketing is a popular one where you have actively targeted the product that you wish to market and usually earn a commission based on a converting sale or action.

If the product or service that you are marketing is your own then marketing to increase awareness to your site, product or service will make you money.

If you have the time or skill sets to aid Internet Marketers with their work like copy writing, link building, directory submissions, etc, this is also another method to make money in the Internet marketing industry.

Basically, if you can make money with something that helps a producer of a product or service get clients, then thats how you make money from internet Marketing.

And believe me, thats a lot of ways……..

Yeah, but I hear so many stories of kids striking rich with Internet marketing … I just want to know how!!!

Apart from the Get Rich Now scams … errr schemes you see plastered over the Internet, chances are slim that anyone that can help you with that question will have the reason or time that it will take to tutor you with that question.

Think about it, if I had an idea that will make lots of money…

1. I’d share that with my brother/son/father/nephew rather than you.
2. I’d hire some guys to run it for me.

So now we have concluded what Internet Marketing is and that no-one will give you the idea for you to make your millions.

When I see that question asked on forums, I automatically put a 99/100 chance that the guy will give up on Internet Marketing.

Chances improve if they have included some description about their skills and knowledge.

Chances improve further if they have done some thinking and work on their approach and idea.

Chances improve even further if they are already up and running and have a plan of how to progress.

So with the above said, what are your chances?
