CityU School of Creative Media
A Canvas For Art And Technology
The School of Creative Media at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) operates at the intersection of avant-garde art and computer science. Unlike standard university departments, its digital presence requires a distinct narrative duality.
Our design approach treats the website simultaneously as a strict academic directory and a progressive contemporary art venue. The resulting framework provides flawless utility for admissions and research data while actively celebrating the school's rebellious creative spirit.

Curating Immersive Digital Media Assets
Designing for media artists requires an interface that steps back to let the content breathe, rather than competing with it. We established a layout based on stark typography, expansive whitespace, and strict grid alignments that accommodate everything from text-heavy course directories to cinematic video reels.
Every interface variable was adjusted to balance the school's progressive aesthetic with the absolute legibility required for day-to-day academic navigation.

Preserving The Design On Mobile
Media art is consumed across countless screen dimensions, meaning the digital showcase cannot be restricted to a desktop view. Our frontend team built a fluid grid system that automatically repositions complex image galleries, project descriptions, and interactive elements.
This ensures that heavy visual content scales naturally on mobile screens, preserving the intentional framing of student portfolios without sacrificing load speeds.
Building A Living Digital Museum
Creative media institutions exist in a constant state of motion, rapidly cycling through physical gallery openings, graduation shows, and international hackathons. Instead of treating these events as temporary notices that vanish after a week, we designed an intelligent timeline system.
This framework elevates live events to the forefront during launch week, then automatically transitions them into a permanent digital museum. This preserves the school's historical legacy and provides an expanding resource for future artistic talent.
