HKBU VRC
Bringing Art And Technology Together
Led by pioneering artist Professor Jeffrey Shaw, the Visualization Research Centre at HKBU humanizes computer science by intersecting it with new media art. The lab's primary mission centers on building immersive environments that change how communities engage with history and interactive storytelling.
We built a digital platform that introduces this advanced Extended Reality (XR) research to the wider world. The website acts as an open invitation to explore how creative technology can preserve shared global traditions and cultural narratives.

Sharing Stories Of Global Significance
Rather than acting as a standardised academic directory, the site focuses on the real-world human impact of the center's work. It provides dedicated space to showcase major historical preservation projects, bringing ancient data back to life through digital means.
By highlighting immersive deep-dives like Dreamscape of the Qianlong Emperor, the platform connects scholars, students, and the public with rich cultural stories. The interface honors the art by transforming dry data into an engaging learning experience.

Seamless Access On Any Device
To ensure students, creators, and international partners can explore these archives easily, the user experience is built for frictionless discovery. The layout breaks down complex scientific developments into digestible, welcoming sections that encourage exploration.
This accessible approach extends fully to mobile environments through a flexible, responsive design. The platform adapts naturally to tablets and smartphones, keeping navigation intuitive so that users can learn about new systems or read publications on the go.
Keeping The Focus On Creative Expression
The design system intentionally leaves room for the art to speak for itself, adopting a philosophy where technology supports but never overshadows creativity. By choosing a clean, minimal backdrop and avoiding distracting elements, the interface highlights the human imagination behind the code.
Using generous spacing and balanced typography, the website celebrates the vibrant colors, historical artifacts, and interactive environments created by the lab. The layout serves as a supportive frame, allowing the center's visual storytelling to take center stage.
